Muggy day…

This is my banter for Thursday August 22nd..

Hello everyone:: I trust your Wednesday was an enjoyable one.. I hope it was not unusually hot where you live.. Here it was sweltering hot.. Sticky hot, and any other name you would like to use to describe our Wednesday.. Every time I even went near the patio windows I could feel the  heat trying to gain entrance to the house.. Outside was like a wall of heat and moister, that took the breath away from me.. Each time the pup went out she never stayed long, as she was feeling the heaviness in the air too.. It’s pretty bad when your dog doesn’t like the outside.. The plants on the deck had to be watered, even though we had rain over night.. The thunder and lightening was a sight to see and hear.. The thunder was so loud that it scared the dogs.. They certainly didn’t expect that sound.. I like to lay in bed and listen to the thunder and try to figure out how far away it is.. When, I captured the photo above there was no sound just the lightening, lighting up the darkness.. There was a lot of different patterns, but for some reason my camera wasn’t acting right.. I wish I had caught a few of the other lightening bolts.. They were breath taking..

lightening.jpg                         Lightening, so beautiful.. Yet, so dangerous…

As I sit here writing, I can almost here the sound of thunder again. The forecast was rain today, but alas no rain has fallen.. I kind of hope there will be another thunder storm tonight, because I feel asleep fairly quick.. I know there are people who are deathly afraid of thunder and lightening.. They run and hide as soon as they see or hear the first hint of the storm.. I know of quite a few animals that fear the storm, and become agitated and plain old crazy.. (in a playful kind of way)  I know of one dog that is like a barometer.. Her demeanor begins to change, and she becomes very clingy.. She is very accurate and has predicted storms that are coming.. That’s kind of cool, if you think about it.. There are people who feel a heaviness on their head, when a storm or even rain coming.. I am one of those people.. Like most, we experience a headache that lingers on.. I’m not a fan of the headaches and I know of no one that likes them.. The headache determines what you can do, and if you bend over to pick something up.. Well, your head throbs like crazy.. For me the thunder storm can come visit anytime, but it must leave the headache behind.. And I will not be on the golf course anytime soon.. I know lightening can strike you any where you are.. Indoors or outdoors.. All I can say is be careful when lightening is showing off in the skies..

rain and lightening.gif                 Rain, and lightening…..

Our Thursday is going top be a big difference from Wednesday’s heat.. The temperature is only supposed to be in the twenties, and very bearable.. I will be out sitting either under the gazebo or in the sun light.. It would be a good time to get some tan.. My legs are as white as snow.. Heck, I could be a ghost except for my arms and maybe face.. Those parts have been exposed to the sun and have picked up a bit of color.. I checked on the sun flower plant to make sure no squirrel has taken the flower.. I think I have it far enough away from the railing of the deck, so they can’t get it.. I take a couple pictures each day, so I won’t forget it’s progress.. I was thinking of making a shroud  from barbed wire.. Then, let them try to take the flower.. It would be the same as covering my rose tree with chicken wire.. They were stealing the buds off of that one too.. I know there is only the one doing these things as I have him recorded on camera.. Little fart!!  Well, this lady has lots to do.. So I’m blowing this popcorn stand.. Till later.. Try not to pet a skunk.. 🙂 🙂

I would like to thank all my readers for coming by to read my banter.. 🙂 🙂  The first photo was taken by myself, and the other two by some very talented artists… 🙂 🙂 I hope you enjoy..

Skunks…

Hello everyone… The evening is beautiful here. The day was quite warm with a rain shower early this morning. All in all, not a bad day. I hope your Tuesday was as pleasant as the one I enjoyed. I wish everyone that is under the weather, or sick a speedy recovery. When I was sick, I received some recovery messages from some very wonderful readers. I appreciate your kindness, and your wishes. Thank You! With the rain falling today, I had hoped my rotten head aches would have vanished. But, they tend to hang on like a stocker. They are relentless… GRRRRR.. And if that does not seem like enough, I have hurt my left hip. Which gives me plenty of opportunity to yell out.. ‘OUCH!’ more than usual. I seem to be falling to pieces, and there isn’t a darn thing I can do about it. Age kind of does that to all of us..

DSC_0233.JPG        Colorful flowers bring a smile to our faces…

Today, my banter with everyone is about ‘the Skunk’. That smelly little black and white creature, that comes out at night and stinks up the whole place. They have a way of making your dogs wish they had never seen them. But the dog, as protective as they are, just never see the skunk as danger. I caught one in our yard with my flash light last week. Our silly little dog, being the protector she is, ran right over to the place where the skunk had just gone through the wooden fence. Thank god, there was a Hosta between the dog and the skunk. The dog only received a very small faint bit of spray on her neck. I wondered why I could smell skunk so close to me when she came in the house. There she was trying to remove the smell from her neck. She wiggled and rubbed against the cover, but the smell did not come off. She was just a little stinky, but not enough to banish her from the house. I’m hoping she has not forgotten the insident. But, I highly doubt that she has. Heck, you can say the word ‘Squirrel!’ to her and she’s on the run, chasing the squirrels away from the bird feeder. Our other little dog goes running beside the other dog, and they try to eat each other. They are like two little kids fighting over the number one spot. They don’t bite each other they make it sound like a fight. Crazy critters…

DSC_0229.JPG             Beautiful color……

We have a house across the road, kiddy corner to us. This house has a full family of skunks living under their front deck. Now we know where the skunks are coming from. Our yard is like a fortress. There are stones, boards, sticks, and old plant clippings protecting us from the skunks. I put bleach on the wood, in the hopes this will keep them out. My rabbit does not come around anymore, even the chipmunk keeps his distance. It’s time to eliminate the skunk invasion. I’ve had enough of the smell… So, I hit the internet for some good advice… The nine step elimination prosses seemed pretty straight forward. I was armed and ready to fight.. First off.. Get rid of any fruits, nuts, berries, and any food that would attract them. Check, and double check.. Oops! The bird seed on the ground. Crap, I quickly covered it with a large board, and a couple heavy rocks. Next, protect your garbage cans with a paddle lock. Garbage is in the garage, even better. I was pumped.. Next, get rid of any fresh lawn clippings, as the seeds in the clipping attract the skunk. Check.. Haven’t mowed the lawn in a couple weeks. Trimmed bushes, and vegetation.. Done. Bright solar lights, and motion detector lights. Done. You can use a motion sensor water sprinkler that goes off if they come near. Set near where they go. No lumber or wood piles around. Good.

DSC_0394.JPG         Pretty Daisies….

Onto the next step, get fox and dog urine. What? I’m not chasing my dog around the yard with a small bowl to collect the pee. Are you kidding me??? You can buy the urine from a hardware store, and also pepper spray.. It would be my luck, that if I put my finger on the trigger, the wind would start to blow hard, and I would have a face full of pepper spray.. Next, citrus peels.. Well, I never thought that one would work. You can use orange, or lemon peels spread around the yard. Next, traps.. put a 30L garbage can open end up, against a secure surface so it won’t tip over. Get a 2X4 to use as a ramp for the skunk to get to the cat food you have already put in the can. The skunk will jump in the can for the food, and it can’t climb back out. Thank god for that.. In the morning put the lid on the can, put in truck bed, and take it for a drive. Carry the can out to a clearing near a forest.. Tie a twenty foot rope to the lid, get back and pull the lid off. They say the skunk will just wonder away.. ‘Ya right!’ I wonder how many times this has failed? Or you could call pest control.. Let them do the work.. Next and final step, that makes the most sense to me. Soak old rags in ammonia, and through them under the deck, or near any other opening. Skunks do not like ammonia.. Really, I don’t either..

Well, these are just a few ways to send the skunks running.. I’m getting ammonia tomorrow, and I will try it.. Till latter.. Don’t pet skunks..

I would like to thank you wonderful readers for reading my endless banter, you are wonderful.. 🙂 🙂  As usual the pictures in this banter are taken by myself.. Maggie.. Enjoy…. 🙂 🙂
