This is my banter for Tuesday August 20th..

Hello all you beautiful people:: Monday has come and gone and we are starting our walk through the week. I hope your Monday was prosperous, and fun for all you came in touch with.. Last night it rained a lot, and for along time.. I went out in the morning with the puppies and stepped into a puddle of water.. I didn’t expect there would be any water on the porch rug.. As I looked towards the stairs, the rug was dry and so were the deck boards.. I think the coolness of the water startled me, as I turned to see what the wet was from.. It was the kind of surprise you get when you are walking around, looking out for doggie bombs.. You watch so carefully, missing everyone you see.. As you turn one doggie bomb gets ya, as it squishes between your toes.. ‘That kind of surprise’.. And, yes.. I have found a few of those, doggie bombs over the years.. The feeling makes your whole body shiver. The water did surprise me.. The air had a coolness to it, yet it was hot. That could be because of the direct sun light we get on our patio doors. I have thermal, black out curtains, and they seem to do a pretty good job. The sun does shine full out on the windows for the better part of the day.. But, any hoo the day was starting out pretty darn nice.. I even found time later in the afternoon to sit on the porch, and play my game..

DSCN1507.JPG         Beautiful peach colored Begonias..

This game drives me insane.. All I want to do is master the cards, so I can win.. The saddest part of the game is that half the time, there are cards that come up and you can’t use them anywhere.. It’s crazy when you are doing good, and you run into a deck that hinders your winning.. It’s very frustrating.. I have had a couple games that if you purchase points you will win.. But, is that all worth it.. I like to keep going on and trying to out smart the game.. Somedays all you can do is win, then there are those days when the game messes with your mind.. I am not a gamer, just a solitaire, yatzy, and cribbage player.. Helps me pass the time when there is nothing to do.. It calms me down, then heats me up again.. My hubby will laugh at me sometimes, as I talk to the game. ‘Yup, that proves it.’ ‘I am going loony.’ It’s a space filler in between loads of laundry. ‘Yes today was the day for doing the laundry.’ ‘I didn’t have much, which was nice.’ That was done and over with long before dinner time.. The couple next door had their grand-daughter through out the day.. They were in their yard, and my two little dogs barked at the little girl.. They would never hurt her, they just act tough.. I have this house that emits a sound they don’t like. I turned it on high and two little dogs stopped barking went inside the house.. It’s nice when things work like that.. DSCN1549.JPG                   Tiny flowers…

As I have said before, picking out something to make for dinner is stressful.. If it was just me I would have a grilled cheese, or egg salad sandwich. That would be good for me.. Unfortunately, that won’t feed two hungry fellas.. There has to be something else to fill the hunger.. Tonight, it was pork tender loin on the barbeque, potatoes, and some kind of veggie.. Right now, I can hear my mind thinking about tomorrows dinner.. ‘Hey, how about Kraft dinner??’ Not in this house.. I’m the only one who would eat it.. I have a meat and potatoes kind of hubby, and grandson.. Once in while a sandwich with fries will hit the spot.. I like to cook, but just sometimes I want a break away from the stove.. I had no idea that Princesses had to work so hard.. Ha! Ha! Only in fairy tales and the movies.. I guess we are all facing the same dilemma each day.. And we carry our burden with pride.. So, cook on, and be proud of what you create.. 🙂 Till later.. Take care and be safe.. 🙂 🙂

At this time I would like to thank those who take the time out of their busy lives to read my banter.. Thanks.. 🙂 🙂  The photos in my banter are taken by myself.. Maggie Enjoy!! 🙂 🙂

Great times…

This is my banter for Monday August 19th..

Hello everyone:: How the heck is everyone on this Monday in August.. I would almost bet that all of you had a great time with your families and friends.. The rain fell here a bit on Saturday, and later Friday evening. The grass sure loved the rain, as it seems to have grow since then. The plants are tall and bright colors, and fill our backyard with beauty.. The squirrels are raiding the bird feeder, as they always do. The chipmunk has come out of his hiding to grab a bite to eat.. A noisy Red Cardinal stopped by to pick berries from a tree next door. They are such a beautiful bird, and I would imagine soon I will see mom with their little babies on the back fence.. I see them there quite often, as mom shows them the place to get food.. The babies make their way along the fence like a tight rope walker.. Every once in awhile they loose their balance and stagger to one side of the top board of the fence.. I love sitting and watching them grow stronger, and get their colors.. That is one of the things I wait for each year and they have returned each year and raise a new brood of babies. Same with the Blue Jay, and many other birds..

DSCN1577.JPG        A blend of blue and yellow is bound to brighten up any spot….

This weekend brought the Finches into the backyard.. They are so tiny and beautiful.. With their bright yellow and black plumage.. They flit through the air as if they had hitched a ride on the tail of the wind.. We are all so fortunate to behold such beauty around us.. It’s almost, as if you blink you will miss something extra special.. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.. I love to watch the animals with my camera by my side. I try to capture those special moments forever as proof to my memory.. For, in the winter I can gaze back on the beauty in pictures.. Friday night, I made potato salad, and deviled eggs for the dinner on Saturday.. This way I was not burdened by the preparation of those items.. Friday was a nice day to spend sitting on the porch, and watching the world go by.. We had been talking about renting a camper and going camping for a week.. I began going through the internet trying to find a place not too far away.. I found one and it is with-in the one hundred miles I reserved for travel.. The place is quaint, and family oriented.. We drove there on Friday afternoon and booked a few days stay.. Now all we have to do is wait for the time to come around.. Personally, I can’t wait.. :0 :0

DSCN1584.JPG        Inviting falls to cool off in, or just to sit and be in love…

Saturday came early as there was still a lot to do before company came.. The steaks had to come out of the freezer, and the chicken was in the fridge, ready to go on the barbeque.. I drank my tea, and while I did that my daughter called and asked I they could come to the house earlier then mentioned.. ‘Of course I said yes.’ Their time of arrival was to be an hour and a half.. I jumped to my feet and made my way up stairs to get dressed for the day.. Vacuuming was the first thing on my list. Finished that, and got help with the bathrooms.. The dog needed to be washed, and I tried my best to get my hubby to take her to the spa.. The pet store near us has a spa area. There you can wash your dog, and they supply shampoos, conditioners, and good smelling sense for your dog..  They also give you towels, doog hair blowers, and it all costs only ten dollars.. A very good deal and easier on the back then, the bath tub.. He was reluctant to go, but after he was there he realized how much easier the work was using the spa.. I filled my time with the cleaning I still had to do.. The dog smelled fantastic and we were ready for company..

buzzy beeOne of life’s wonders, and a big part of pollination..

Turns out the hour and a half turned into about three hours.. My daughter and Shawn were riding a motor cycle, and ran into very wet weather.. They needed to stop at a Walmart and purchase new clothing and whatever they could find in the line of weather protection.. My daughter still had wet socks, and one wet boot when yhey arrived.. Shawn had a wet tee shirt, and a soaking wet helmet on the inside.. It wasn’t a good ride for them, as it was pretty chilly.  At least they arrived here safe and sound.. We talked and they relaxed in the warmth of the inside.. If anyone has been caught in the rain on a motor cycle, you will understand how uncomfortable and dangerous it is on the roads.. It was getting time to put the chicken into the barbeque. The time went by quite fast, as we neared the time for the other guests to show up. Once the rest of the guests arrived it was time to start cooking the steaks.. While I was doing the cooking, a cloud opened up and got me a bit wet. But, not enough for me to quit cooking the steaks. We set the table and everyone got a seat, and dinner was served.. I got a good review for the steaks, and how perfectly they had been cooked.. That made me feel pretty good, as I milling around making sure everyone was doing fine.. The baby was being a bit cranky, and he was hungry too. Mom gave him his bottle and he fell fast asleep.. After desert everyone talked and joked about pretty much everything.. You know, I love seeing my children, and am very proud of  the fantastic people they are today..

I just love it when a good day, and good company gather in a place of love and happiness.. I love all of you, and am proud to have you as my children..  🙂 🙂

I would like to take this time to thank all my readers, for being here to read my banter.. 🙂 🙂  Seems like I took the photos in this banter, as I have a few times.. Enjoy.. 🙂 🙂

Skunks…

DSC_0244.JPG            Looking for sweet nectar….

www.marionbell.com/skunks

Hello everyone… The evening is beautiful here. The day was quite warm with a rain shower early this morning. All in all, not a bad day. I hope your Tuesday was as pleasant as the one I enjoyed. I wish everyone that is under the weather, or sick a speedy recovery. When I was sick, I received some recovery messages from some very wonderful readers. I appreciate your kindness, and your wishes. Thank You! With the rain falling today, I had hoped my rotten head aches would have vanished. But, they tend to hang on like a stocker. They are relentless… GRRRRR.. And if that does not seem like enough, I have hurt my left hip. Which gives me plenty of opportunity to yell out.. ‘OUCH!’ more than usual. I seem to be falling to pieces, and there isn’t a darn thing I can do about it. Age kind of does that to all of us..

DSC_0233.JPG        Colorful flowers bring a smile to our faces…

Today, my banter with everyone is about ‘the Skunk’. That smelly little black and white creature, that comes out at night and stinks up the whole place. They have a way of making your dogs wish they had never seen them. But the dog, as protective as they are, just never see the skunk as danger. I caught one in our yard with my flash light last week. Our silly little dog, being the protector she is, ran right over to the place where the skunk had just gone through the wooden fence. Thank god, there was a Hosta between the dog and the skunk. The dog only received a very small faint bit of spray on her neck. I wondered why I could smell skunk so close to me when she came in the house. There she was trying to remove the smell from her neck. She wiggled and rubbed against the cover, but the smell did not come off. She was just a little stinky, but not enough to banish her from the house. I’m hoping she has not forgotten the insident. But, I highly doubt that she has. Heck, you can say the word ‘Squirrel!’ to her and she’s on the run, chasing the squirrels away from the bird feeder. Our other little dog goes running beside the other dog, and they try to eat each other. They are like two little kids fighting over the number one spot. They don’t bite each other they make it sound like a fight. Crazy critters…

DSC_0229.JPG             Beautiful color……

We have a house across the road, kiddy corner to us. This house has a full family of skunks living under their front deck. Now we know where the skunks are coming from. Our yard is like a fortress. There are stones, boards, sticks, and old plant clippings protecting us from the skunks. I put bleach on the wood, in the hopes this will keep them out. My rabbit does not come around anymore, even the chipmunk keeps his distance. It’s time to eliminate the skunk invasion. I’ve had enough of the smell… So, I hit the internet for some good advice… The nine step elimination prosses seemed pretty straight forward. I was armed and ready to fight.. First off.. Get rid of any fruits, nuts, berries, and any food that would attract them. Check, and double check.. Oops! The bird seed on the ground. Crap, I quickly covered it with a large board, and a couple heavy rocks. Next, protect your garbage cans with a paddle lock. Garbage is in the garage, even better. I was pumped.. Next, get rid of any fresh lawn clippings, as the seeds in the clipping attract the skunk. Check.. Haven’t mowed the lawn in a couple weeks. Trimmed bushes, and vegetation.. Done. Bright solar lights, and motion detector lights. Done. You can use a motion sensor water sprinkler that goes off if they come near. Set near where they go. No lumber or wood piles around. Good.

DSC_0394.JPG         Pretty Daisies….

Onto the next step, get fox and dog urine. What? I’m not chasing my dog around the yard with a small bowl to collect the pee. Are you kidding me??? You can buy the urine from a hardware store, and also pepper spray.. It would be my luck, that if I put my finger on the trigger, the wind would start to blow hard, and I would have a face full of pepper spray.. Next, citrus peels.. Well, I never thought that one would work. You can use orange, or lemon peels spread around the yard. Next, traps.. put a 30L garbage can open end up, against a secure surface so it won’t tip over. Get a 2X4 to use as a ramp for the skunk to get to the cat food you have already put in the can. The skunk will jump in the can for the food, and it can’t climb back out. Thank god for that.. In the morning put the lid on the can, put in truck bed, and take it for a drive. Carry the can out to a clearing near a forest.. Tie a twenty foot rope to the lid, get back and pull the lid off. They say the skunk will just wonder away.. ‘Ya right!’ I wonder how many times this has failed? Or you could call pest control.. Let them do the work.. Next and final step, that makes the most sense to me. Soak old rags in ammonia, and through them under the deck, or near any other opening. Skunks do not like ammonia.. Really, I don’t either..

Well, these are just a few ways to send the skunks running.. I’m getting ammonia tomorrow, and I will try it.. Till latter.. Don’t pet skunks..

I would like to thank you wonderful readers for reading my endless banter, you are wonderful.. 🙂 🙂  As usual the pictures in this banter are taken by myself.. Maggie.. Enjoy…. 🙂 🙂

Long weekend..

DSCN1258.JPG            In my garden grows…..

www.marionbell.com/long-weekend

Hello everyone.. I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend. The weather here was very hot during the day and cooler in the evenings. Nights like this always make sleeping a little more enjoyable. In my little corner of the universe, we had a gathering of artisans selling their wares. A Festival, that falls on the first long weekend of August. The walkway along the lake, was packed with people, everyday during the long weekend. There are lots of artists that flock to this area, just for the chance to explore the works of others. Or, to have their talents recognized by other artists. There were countless people looking for just that one item that would add a special touch to their surroundings. For those on the hunt for food, there was plenty to eat, beer to drink, and even a few ice-cream venders. I think they used to be called them the Dickie-Dee. These were carts that stood stable in one area. Heck, you could even find the right size of hot tub, or Infinity pool to install in your back yard. You could even put it in your house, for year round fun and exercise. That sounds like a very good deal.. Just think, splashing around in a nice warm pool, while you watch the snow fall outside. ‘What a way to live…’  You could add a new barbeque to the list of summer items you desire. One with three cooking grills, or one that could be used as an entire part of an outdoors kitchen design. The uses and designs are endless…

DSCN1233.JPG Two baby Robins waiting for mom or dad to return with food for them…

As we moved along the walking path, we can upon a carnival set up with rides for the young and the old. Carnival games that required no skill to win. Then, there are other games that take a lot of talent to win, or just a big pocket of money to buy that one stuff toy for a loved one.. Cotton candy, caramel popcorn, candied apples, hot dogs, fries, burgers, and ice-cream by the buckets. Frozen treats to cool you down, and coffee just to give you that little kick you needed to continue on your way. The screams of excited children, as the rides tossed them from side to side, and up and down. The sounds of the carnival ringing in your ears, as music played loudly. So loud that it made me think that there was a contest going on for the loudest noise…. Parents taking pictures of children franticly waving from a ride that will likely scar them to death. Parent patiently standing still, watching, and waiting till the ride stops. The endless trek to the next ride, then wait all over again… ‘Oh, the fun of the carnival.’ The memories playing in your head of your youth, and how you want to run away with the carnival.. The time you barfed on Peggy-Sue, and how mad she was that day on the whirl-around.. What away to find out spinning was not your thing.

DSCN1265.JPG      Fading with time, while new blooms wait to appear…..

The lake filled with parents and children of all ages.. The shade of the trees, where lovers sit and play with their cell phones. ‘Oh, where did love go.’ Picnics on the grass by the lake. The smell of hot dogs, fried chicken, or maybe even take out.. The life guard perched high on a chair, above those seeking the cool of the water.. Little children running away from the small waves the lap upon the shore. Standing still in the water, watching the little fish nibble at your toes… The fun and beauty of a summers day by the lake. Softer music can be heard from the voice of a song bird, as she sings her tune to the people watching in the crowd. Groups on the stage, belting out the tunes, as people dance to the beat. The sounds of a summer festival.. We are now in August, and summer is slipping slowly away. The stores are stocked with back-to-school items. No more summer clothing can be found, as the clothes have been carefully packed away. The sounds of parents and unhappy children shopping in the stores. Parents on edge, as young Johnny decides to run away from them. There he is playing in the toy section of the store. Soon winter clothes, boots and coats will fill the hangers, where summer clothing once hung. Stop rushing the winter retailers. It’s too darn depressing to even think of, at least for me.

To all those, that go to any-kind of festival, carnival, picnic by the lake, or family outing. I wish you all fun and safe journeys.. See you later…. 🙂 🙂

I wish to thank all of my followers, readers, or visitor for being so patient this last week while I was off.. Thank you… 🙂 🙂 As usual the photos in this banter have been taken by myself.. Maggie.. Hope you enjoy.. 🙂 🙂

This past week was rough at times, and still the head aches leave me unable to function. But, I press on and try to not let them stop me. If the weather is to blame, I wish it would stop bothering me. I do feel better than before, but not quite totally healthy. I choose not to go to the doctor as they tend to be quacks, who have no idea what they are doing. I have learned techniques to put my pain at bay. It helps the bad pain disappear. The lingering pain is a pain in the butt, but I will settle for that…. Till later… I wish you all well.. And be safe out there…:) 🙂
